Zu stark war der Kontrast der düster depressiven Songs zum Vorgängeralbum „Transformer“ mit der unbeschwert lakonischen Hitsingle „Walk on the Wild Side“. Das Album wurde ein gigantischer Flop! Heute gilt es als Meisterwerk und eines der besten Lou-Reed-Werke überhaupt.
