Little Milton first made impact when he hit No. 1 in the R&B chart in 1965 with the roaring soul-blues of 'We're Gonna Make It' on Chess Records. 'Who's Cheating Who' followed as another crossover hit for Little Milton Campbell, with a string of chart entries during the decade.
In a career lasting 50 years, this son of a Mississippi sharecropper also recorded for Sun and Bobbin in the 50's, moving to Stax in the 70's with a Watt Stax movie appearance and more hit singles, then a wealth of LPs on Malaco in the 80's and 90's and finally on Telarc shortly before his sad death in 2005. Little Milton's fourth LP for Chess was 'If Walls Could Talk', in 1969, presenting a selection of brassy versions of old R&B hits and original soul songs, some featuring Donny Hathaway in the studio band. That album is re-issued here on Shout Records, together with bonus tracks featuring two hard-to-find 45s and 'Grits Ain't Groceries', his big hit from that year.
