Kristoffer Kristofferson wurde am 22. Juni 1936 geboren. Sam Peckinpah besetzte ihn als Billy the Kid. Willie Nelson nahm ein ganzes Album mit seinen Liedern auf und schloss sich ihm dann in der Supergruppe The Highwaymen mit Johnny Cash und Waylon Jennings an.
Davor hatte er sein Studium in Oxford 1960 absolviert, trat darauf in die Armee ein und begann, von Hank Williams inspirierte Lieder zu schreiben, bis er in den Bannkreis von Bob Dylan geriet.
„Die Richtung, in die Dylan wies, machte es zu einer respektablen Ambition, zu einer respektablen Sache, die man tun konnte“, sagte Kristofferson.
1971 begann Kristofferson eine Karriere als Schauspieler und gewann einen Golden Globe für seine Rolle in A Star Is Born und nahm zwischen 1970 und 2016 insgesamt 24 Studioalben auf., dazu fünf Live-Mitschnitte.
