Sie verwirklichten ihre Vision eines multikulturellen Karnevals, einer farbenfrohen Revue mit überbordender Lebensfreude, Ironie, Humor und Raffinesse. Die New Yorker inszenierten eine atemberaubende Melange aus karibischem Pop, Funk, Latin und perfekter Choreographie.
Gerade war ihr drittes Album »Tropical Gangsters« mit Hits wie »Annie, I'm Not Your Daddy« erschienen, der Auftritt bei der elften Rockpalast-Nacht wurde zum Durchbruch in Europa. Kid Creole & The Coconuts hatten sich über Nacht zu einem der begehrtesten Live-Acts Europas verwandelt. Und obwohl die Band vor allem auf der Bühne eine absolute Sensation war, ist dieses ihre einzige offizielle Live-Veröffentlichung.
Neben dem Auftritt in Essen auf DVD und zwei CDs gibt es außerdem ein Clubkonzert aus Köln aus dem Juni desselben Jahres auf einer zweiten DVD.
