Obwohl James Brown 1969 auf einem Konzert in Monterey angekündigt hatte nie wieder zu touren, machte er bis 1975 weiter. Ein paar Jahre später überzeugten ihn drei junge TV-Produzenten noch einmal eine Come-Back-Show auf die Beine zu stellen. Dieses außerordentliche Konzert wurde aufgezeichnet, um dann unglücklicherweise in einem Tresor verschlossen für lange Zeit zu verschwinden ... für 12 lange Jahre.
Seine Verwandlung des Gospels in überwältigenden, gefühlvollen Rhythm and Blues, kombiniert mit minutiöser Choreographie und energiegeladener Bühnenpräsenz wird in diesem legendären Konzert klar rübergebracht. Mit dabei sind Hits wie "Papas Got a Brand New Bag", "Body Heat" und eine unglaubliche 20-minütige Version von "Sex Machine".
