Die „Goldene Stimme“ steht im Mittelpunkt dieser neuen CD des münsterischen Gitarristen Gregor Hilden. „Golden Voice Blues“ ist ein Instrumental-Album - es singt allein die auf dem Cover abgebildete abgewetzte goldene Gibson „Les Paul“ Gitarre, begleitet von einer Top-Band mit weiteren herausragenden Solisten!

Im Verbund mit der kraftvollen Rhythm-Section von Memo Gonzales’ Bluescasters (Erkan Özdemir, Bass und Klaus Schnirring, Drums) plus Hildens langjährigem Mitstreiter an der Hammond-B3-Orgel und am Piano, Horst Bergmeyer, wird hier purer und authentisch groovender Blues dargeboten. Improvisationen voller „Feeling“ und ungebremster Spielfreude ranken sich um die eingängigen Themen aus Hildens Feder und jeweils bei vier Titeln gesellen sich noch der renommierte US-Bluesharper Keith Dunn, sowie der Saxophonist Tommy Schneller hinzu, um im spontanen und kreativen Wechselspiel der Instrumente für Farbe und Schwung zu sorgen.

Die elf instrumentalen Eigenkompositonen erklingen mit ihren vielen klassischen Elementen wie aus dem „American Blues-Book“. Den Mittelpunkt dieser mitreißend-fließenden Stücke bildet jeweils die mit charmantem Schmelz intonierte E-Gitarre Hildens. Hat sich der Gitarrist bislang vor allem als einfühlsamer und geschmackvoll agierender Grenzgänger zwischen R&B, Soul und Jazz (nicht nur) in Deutschland einen Namen gemacht, so sind auf dieser Aufnahme vor allem seine frühen Einflüsse, wie etwa das facettenreiche Spiel von Peter Green, B. B. King oder Mike Bloomfield nachzuvollziehen.

Hilden beschränkt sich dabei freilich nicht auf das Reproduzieren der großen Vorbilder, sondern setzt eigene und markante Akzente, ohne dabei die klassische Blues-Schule zu verleugnen.

The “golden voice” is at the core of the new CD by the guitarist Gregor Hilden from Münster. “Golden Voice Blues” is an instrumental album – only the scruffy golden Gibson “Les Paul” guitar appearing on the cover does the singing, accompanied by a top band featuring more outstanding soloists.

Pure, authentic, grooving blues are offered here by the combined forces of the powerful rhythm section from Memo Gonzales’ Bluescasters (Erkan Özdemir, bass, and Klaus Schnirring, drums) and Hilden’s long-time comrade-in-arms at the Hammond B3 organ and piano, Horst Bergmeyer. Improvisations full of feeling and unfettered joy at playing weave themselves around the catchy melodies from Hilden’s pen, and in four of the cuts, the renowned US blues harper Keith Dunn and saxophonist Tommy Schneller join the musicians to add color and energy with spontaneous and creative interaction of instruments.

The eleven original instrumental compositions, with their many classical elements, sound as if they belong to the “American Blues Book”. At the core of these enthralling, flowing works is Hilden’s E-guitar, played with charming schmaltz. Until now, this guitarist has made a name for himself not only in Germany as a sensitive and tasteful balancing artist between R&B, soul and jazz; but this recording reveals his earlier influences, such as the multifaceted playing of Peter Green, B. B. King, or Mike Broomfield.

Naturally, Hilden does not confine himself to reproducing his great role models, but rather puts his own sharp spin on the music, without denying the classical blues school, however.
