Sein fünftes Album (1977) war zugleich das erste, welches O’Sullivan selber produzierte. Als Gastmusiker waren Gitarrist Chris Spedding sowie Keyboarder Tony Hymas an den Aufnahmen beteiligt, die in einem vielfältigen, aber dennoch ausgewogenen Werk mündeten. Aus dem Album wurden drei Singles ausgekoppelt: ‘My Love And I’, ‘You Got Me Going’ und ‘Miss My Love Today’.
Das Originalalbum wurde für diese Reissue im luxuriösen Digipak mit neun Bonustracks aufgestockt: Die vier weiteren A-Seiten ‘I’ll Believe It When I See It‘, ‘You Never Listen To Reason’, ‘Doing What I Know’ und ‘To Each His Own’, sowie fünf B-Seiten: ‘Just As You Are‘, ‘Call On Me’, ‘Can’t Get You Out Of My Mind’, ‘As Long As I Can’ und ‘Our Own Baby‘. Alle Tracks wurden von Originalbändern neu gemastert, um bislang unübertroffene Soundqualität zu liefern, während das inforeiche Booklet zahlreiche Fotos enthält.

The first album to be produced by Gilbert himself and featuring the usual wide variety of original O’Sullivan compositions, Southpaw (1977) is the sound of an artist really enjoying the process of running things in the studio as he inspired superb performances from all concerned; including guitarist Chris Spedding, keyboard player Tony Hymas and the Mike Sammes Singers. Nine bonus non-album singles and b-sides are included.
