Lester Flatt & Earl Scruggs schlossen sich zusammen, um Bluegrass zu internationalem Durchbruch zu verhelfen. Die Kombination aus Flatts Gitarrenspiel und Scruggs’ wohl einmaligem Können am Banjo, machte sie zu Stars der Countrymusik. In den 50er und 60er Jahren hatten sie zahlreiche Hits und bekamen den Grammy für “Foggy Mountain Breakdown”, der Musik, die im Film “Bonnie And Clyde” aus dem Jahr 1967 im Hintergrund lief. 1979 wurden sie in die Country Music Hall of Fame aufgenommen. Earl Scruggs beschrieb die New York Times als den „Paganini“ auf dem 5-seitigen Banjo.
