Ursprünglich im November 1970 erschienen versammelte »Elvis: That’s The Way It Is« acht Studiotracks, die in Nashville aufgenommen wurden und vier Liveauftritte, die Elvis im Rahmen seines 1970er »Summer Festival” Engagement im International Hotel in Las Vegas spielte. Elvis war am Drücker und hatte große Pläne – darunter ein Film und Studiozeit in Nashville.
Als Elvis am 4. Juni 1970 im Studio B bei RCA in Nashville ankam, hatte Produzent Felton Jarvis eine heiße neue Sessionband mit der Gitarrenlegende James Burton zusammengestellt. Fünf Nächte brachten die Aufnahmen für nicht weniger als drei zukünftige Alben und vier Singles hervor, darunter »Elvis: That’s The Way It Is«.
