Der Produzent, Musiker und Songwriter Daniel Lanois hatte seinen Durchbruch, als er gefragt wurde, ob er als Co-Produzent von „The Unforgettable Fire“ von U2 aktiv werden wollte – er fungierte dann auch als Co-Produzent des Grammy-geschmückten Nachfolgers „The Joshua Tree“. Bob Dylan berief Lanois als Produzent von „Oh Mercy“ von 1989. Lanois ist zusätzlich ein begabter Gitarrist, was er auf seinem zweiten Soloalbum „For The Beauty Of Wynona“ eindrücklich unter Beweis stellte – Kritiker lobten das Album 1993.
