1967 gründete Sänger, Keyboarder und Gitarrist Al Kooper gemeinsam mit anderen Mitgliedern des Blues Project die Band Blood, Sweat & Tears. Auch wenn die Formation in den 1970er Jahren deutlich mehr kommerziellen Erfolg haben sollte, gilt das Debütalbum unter Kritikern und Fans doch als die beste und nachhaltigste Veröffentlichung. "Child Is Father To The Man" blieb die einzige LP unter Bandleader Kooper und ist mit wegweisenden Alben wie "Odessey and Oracle" von The Zombies und "Forever Changes" von Love vergleichbar.
Mit großem Line-Up erforscht Kooper eine Spannbreite an Klängen, Stilen und kompositorischen Zugängen. Seine erstklassige Band besteht aus Rock- und Jazzmusikern wie Gitarrist Steve Katz, Bassist Jim Fielder, Jazz-Schlagzeuger Bobby Colomby und den renommierten Horn-Spielern Randy Brecker, Dick Halligan, Fred Lipsius und Jerry Weiss. Entstanden ist ein vielseitiges, psychedelisches Rock-Jazz-Klassik-Fusion-Album, mit so verschiedenen und mutigen Kompositionen wie "I Can’t Quit Her", "I Love You More Than You’ll Ever Know", "House in the Country" und "The Modern Adventures of Plato, Diogenes and Freud".
Das Remastering der Gold-CD von den Original-Masterbändern für IMPEX Records übernahmen Kevin Grey und Robert Pincus in den Cohearant Audio Studios. Die Gold-CD wird begleitet von Liner Notes von Al Kooper.
