Finally the Remastered versions of 4 of the 5 1980s Anthrax Albums!!!
I always wanted to own the remastered versions of the 1980s Anthrax albums. For most Anthrax and Thrash Metal fans those albums constitute the best of their catalog. However, Anthrax could not re-release those albums since they were dropped by Island Records at the beginning of the early 1990s.
Here we finally get 4 out of the 5 Anthrax albums from that great era fully remastered. These are Spreading The Disease, Among the Living, State of Euphoria, & Persistance of Time. Spreading the Disease didn't sound too bad in its original form but the remastering really made this great album sound modern and way clearer. This is the only one in the box set without any bonus tracks, which is strange cause Anthrax had previously released their Armed & Dangerous EP, that could've been used for Bonus tracks, along with 2-3 Live songs from this era. Thankfully, however the other 3 CDs all come with bonus tracks, so that each of them goes beyond 70 minutes of music.
I already had all these CD as non remastered ones, but believe me it was totally worth buying them again in remastered form. The remasters make a huge difference, cause now they sound like they were recorded in the New Millennium instead of the 1980s. Especially Among the Living always sounded muffled to me in the original version. Also the bonus tracks are mostly really good ones. I love that they included songs like Pipeline, Sects, and Anti-Social as bonus songs. Overall, this is a real bargain cause you get 4 CDs for the price of one new CD.
The only gripe I have with this release is its cheap cover, which should have included the 4 album covers of the CDs featured. Also, the booklet inside of the big jewel case is too short having only 5 pages; ideally it should not only have been longer but also featured the album covers for each CD plus all the lyrics, but I guess if they'd done all that this box set would have easily costs more.
Overall, I can only stress that if you don't have this box set and you'd like those Anthrax albums to sound better, then by all means go for this box set. I think that also the price is great: you get 4 CDs for the price of 1 new CD, that's a real bargain. So go get it while you can cause you know that eventually thus box set will be sold out!
