Die britische Prog Rock Band Alan Parsons Project war zwischen 1975 und 1990 aktiv. Kernmitglieder waren Eric Wollfson und Alan Parsons, die sich mit
verschiedenen Sessionmusikern umgaben. Der Engländer Parsons und der Schotte Woolfson begegneten sich 1974 in der Kantine der Abbey Road Studios. Parsons war bereits als Tonassistent bei »Abbey Road« und »Let It Be« von den Beatles aktiv gewesen und hatte Pink Floyds »The Dark Side Of The Moon« aufgenommen. Woolfson, ein Songwriter und Komponist, arbeitete als Session Pianist.
»Pyramid« erschien als drittes Album des APP 1978 – der Name stammt von den vielen Referenzen zu den ägyptischen Pyramiden, die sich auf dem Album finden.
Das magische CD-Spektakel "Pyramid" entführt den Hörer in die Welt des Alten Agypten. Der musikalische Mikrokosmos aus sinfonischen und rockigen Elementen wird von Gastsolisten wie Colin Blunstone, John Miles und Dean Ford getragen; die Höhepunkte des Werkes sind die Tracks "What Goes Up", "The Eagle Will Rise Again" und "Shadow Of A Lonely Man".
