Frühling 1995: Nach der Auflösung der offenen Drogenszene in Zürich ziehen die elfjährige Mia und ihre Mutter Sandrine in ein verschlafenes Städtchen im Zürcher Oberland. Die anfängliche Idylle endet schnell als alte Freunde auftauchen und Sandrine rückfällig wird. Mia flüchtet sich in eine Traumwelt und schmiedet fantastische Pläne für ein Inselleben mit ihrer Mutter, fernab der Drogen. In einer neuen Freundesclique findet Mia bald eine Art Ersatzfamilie und immer mehr auch die Kraft, sich gegen ihre alles beherrschende Mutter aufzulehnen.
