Die Weltausstellung von Paris, 1900. Der österreichische Maler Gustav Klimt, in Begleitung seiner platonischen Lebensgefährtin Emilie Flöge , wird für sein Bild "Philosophie" mit einer Goldmedaille ausgezeichnet. Während eines Gala-Diners findet ihm zu Ehren die Vorführung eines Filmes statt, in dem ein fiktives Zusammentreffen zwischen dem Maler und einer Tänzerin dargestellt wird. Klimt ist fasziniert von der Schönheit der Schauspielerin (Saffron Burrows). Als er die Dame im Palais ihres Gönners aufsucht, trifft er deren Double an, aber auch die echte Lady lockt den Frauenfreund in ihre Laken.
