Nachdem die ägyptische Königin Cleopatra einer tödlichen Intrige ihres Bruders Ptolemäus entgeht, führt sie sich auf höchst ungewöhnliche Weise bei dem römischen Imperator Julius Caesar ein. Aus der sich ergebenden Liaison wird jedoch nicht mehr, da Caesar ermordet wird. Die am Boden zerstörte Cleopatra kehrt nach Ägypten zurück, auf Rache sinnend. Diese will sie an Marc Anton, der sie zur Kapitulation zwingen soll, vollstrecken. Doch abermals schlägt Cupido
zu und Marc Anton verfällt der schönen Königin vom Nil.
