About the film

Während eines Urlaubs in Venedig wird der bekannte Wiener Nervenarzt Josef Breuer von der jungen Russin Lou Salome aufgesucht. Sie bittet ihn, den psychisch labilen Philosophen Friedrich Nietzsche zu behandeln, der sich nach der Trennung von ihr mit Selbstmordabsichten trägt. Breuer willigt ein und unterzieht Nietzsche einer neuartigen Heilungsmethode, deren Ausgang jedoch für beide unerwartet ist.
