About the film
Als der Schriftsteller Holly Martins in Wien ankommt, um seinen alten Freund Harry Lime zu besuchen, wird dieser gerade beerdigt. Martins findet jedoch heraus, dass Lime quicklebendig ist und seinen Tod inszeniert hat, um ungestört seinen Schwarzmarktgeschäften mit gestohlenem Penicillin nachgehen zu können.In Carol Reeds Kriminalfilmklassiker nach einer Erzählung von Graham Greene ist das zerstörte Wien die wahre Hauptfigur. Expressiv filmte Kameramann Robert Krasker die zahllosen Ruinen, dunklen Gassen und im packenden Finale sogar die Kanalisation der Stadt. Die atmosphärische Dichte wird durch Anton Karas' weltberühmtes Zither-Thema und Orson Welles' brillante Darstellung vervollkommnet.
