Als Steve Lehmans Projekt »Sélébéyone« im Jahr 2016 erstmals in die Welt kam, sah es wie eine radikale Abkehr von Lehmans bis dahin bekannter Ensemblearbeit aus. Tatsächlich war das Album »Sélébéyone« das Produkt seiner langjährigen Beschäftigung mit experimentellem Hip-Hop und der ihn umgebenden Community. Modern Jazz, senegalesischer Rap, Live-Elektronik und Underground-Hip-Hop fügten sich zu einem urbanen Musik-Experiment.
