The SACD uses a higher digital resolution than the audio CD and also offers the possibility to store multi-channel sound (surround sound). To enjoy the music in high-end quality, a special SACD player is required. Thanks to the hybrid function, most of the products marked "SACD" in our store can also be played on conventional CD players. In this case, however, the sound does not differ from that of a normal CD. In case of deviations, we point this out separately (non-hybrid).

Alt-Saxophonist Phil Woods hatte zwar zuvor bereits mit Jimmy Raney und seinem Trompeter Jon Eardley aufgenommen, insgesamt war »Woodlore« aber erst sein zweites Album als Leader. Auch wenn die Aufnahme bereits fast 60 Jahre alt ist, verliert sie doch nicht an Frische.
Woods sprüht vor Energie und zeigt, dass er das Einmaleins des Bebop perfekt beherrscht. Neben den Standards »Slow Boat to China«, »Be My Love« und »Woodlore« präsentiert das Quartet auch zwei eigene Kompositionen. Am Klavier spielt John Williams, am Bass Teddy Kotick, am Schlagzeug Nick Stabulas.
Die Hybrid-Mono-SACD erscheint im Mini-LP-Cover in einer Serie von 50 Wiederveröffentlichungen des legendären Prestige-Labels. Geplant sind je 25 Mono- und Stereo- Aufnahmen. Das Mastering übernahm Kevin Gray in seinen Cohearent Audio Studios.
