Als Desmond und Hall zu RCA wechselten, veröffentlichten sie Desmond Blue (1962), Two of a Mind (1962) mit Gerry Mulligan, Take Ten (1963), Bossa Antigua (1964) und Easy Living (1966). Alle sind hervorragende Aufnahmen, aber das in jeder Hinsicht perfekte Album dieser Reihe war Glad to Be Unhappy (1965) mit Gene Cherico am Bass und Kay am Schlagzeug.
Wie alle ihre RCA-Alben wurde auch Glad to Be Unhappy von George Avakian produziert und zeichnet sich durch eine makellose Songliste und eine erstklassige Ausführung durch Desmond und Hall aus. Desmonds Coolness im hohen Register wird von Halls coolen, klingenden Linien und Akkorden gepaart.
