»Hanamichi« ist das letzte Studioalbum, das der legendäre, japanische Jazz-Pianist Masabumi Kikuchi vor seinem Tod 2015 aufnahm und das nun posthum das Licht der Welt erblickt.
Kikuchis eklektischer Stil reichte von Post-Pop über avantgardistische Klassik bis zu Fusion, Solo-Synthesizer und sogar Digi-Dub. Der Künstler arbeitete mit namhaften Kollegen wie Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins, Bill Laswell, Gary Peacock oder Billy Harper zusammen.
»Hanamichi«, das er an einem der feinsten Steinway-Klaviere im New Yorker Klavierhaus aufnahm, ist ein Wechselspiel zwischen Improvisation und Songstruktur und zeigt Kikuchi auf dem Höhepunkt seiner Kreativität.
