Modern aufbereiteter aktueller Cooljazz aus der brodelnden New-York-Jazzszene

Die russisch-israelitische Tenorsaxophonistin Lena Bloch lebte und arbeitete vor ihrem Domizilwechsel nach New York vor über 10 Jahren für kurze Zeit auch in Deutschland, ist aber hier noch zu entdecken. Zumindest für die beiden renommierten Saxophonisten Lee Konitz und Joe Lovano zählt Lena Bloch zu den "all-time favorites", und dies auch bei der dortigen jazz community. Mit ihrem seit gut 10 Jahren bestehenden, prominent besetzten Quartett mit Russ Lossing, Piano, Cameron Brown, Bass und dem unkonventionellen Drummer Billy Mintz, ist soeben die vorliegende neueste CD des Lena Bloch Quartetts beim innovativen spanischen Label "Fresh Sound Records" erschienen. Auch wenn Blochs stilistische Wurzeln noch hörbar im melodischen Cooljazz von Warne Marsh und der Lennie-Tristano-Schule verankert sind, schafft es die stilistisch deutlich moderner agierende hervorragende Rhythmusgruppe um den unglaublich einfallsreichen Pianisten Russ Lossing, Lena hinauf in neuen jazzistische Höhen zu katapultieren. Eine unbedingt empfehlenswerte aktuelle Quartett-CD, vor allem auch für Saxophonliebhaber jenseits von John Coltranes omnipräsenter Stilistik.
