June Christy begann ihre Gesangskarriere im Alter von nur
dreizehn Jahren, als sie sich dem örtlichen Illinois Orchester
von Bill Oetzel anschloss. 1945 bekam sie den Auftritt, der sie
zum Jazzstar machte. In den 1940er und 1950er Jahren spielte,
tourte und nahm sie mit dem Kenton Orchester auf, während
gleichzeitig bereits ihre Solo-Karriere begann.
Die ersten drei Alben wurden von Pete Rugolo arrangiert und dirigiert und das vierte Album »Ballads for Night People« von ihrem Mann Bob Cooper, der darauf auch mit dem Tenor Saxofon und der Klarinette zu hören ist.
