Diese beiden Titanen des Tenorsaxofons hatten beide sehr aktive Karrieren, fanden aber trotzdem die Zeit, von 1960 bis 1962 zusammenzukommen. Als sie herausfanden, dass ihr Sound und ihre Art zu spielen zusammenpassten, entschieden sich die beiden, ihr berühmtes Quintett zu formen.
