Als die Acid-Jazz- und Mojo-Club-Generation Jimmy Smith entdeckte, war das Album »Root Down« immer ganz vorne mit dabei. Auf dem Live-Album von 1972 spielt die Hammond-B-3-Legende mit einer jungen Band Tracks mit einer ordentlichen Dosis Funk und Rock. Der Titeltrack wurde 1995 von den Beastie Boys für deren gleichnamigen Song gesampelt.
