Jazz pianist and composer Horace Tapscott’s 1979 album Live at I. U.C. C. is being reissued for the first time, on 3xLP and CD via Soul Jazz this April. Originally recorded at the Immanuel United Church of Christ, The Pan-Afrikan Peoples Arkestra is described by Soul Jazz as “part Sun Ra Arkestra, part John Coltrane, part Art Ensemble of Chicago.” Pan-Afrikan People’s Arkestra was an independent black arts organisation formed in ’61 – comprised of musicians, poets, dancers and painters from the Watts area of Los Angeles.
