Die Pianistin und Komponistin Hania Rani lebt zwischen Warschau, ihrer Wahlheimat, und Berlin, wo sie studiert hat und nach wie vor häufig arbeitet. »Glass« heißt die erste Single ihres Albums »Esja«, das die Polin als ihr »erstes richtiges Statement« als Künstlerin bezeichnet: »Schluss mit dem Versteckspiel hinter ›Kollaborationen‹ und irgendwelchen ›Projekten‹. Ja, endlich geht es zum allerersten Mal einfach nur um mich, so wie ich bin«.
Aufgenommen in Hania Ranis Wohnung in Warschau - ihr Klavierzimmer hat eine ausgezeichnete Akustik; sie benutzt den Raum inzwischen als (Kunst-)Studio sowie als eine Art Labor für Klangexperimente - sowie im Studio ihres Freundes Bergur Þórisson in Reykjavik, vereint »Esja« insgesamt 10 melodische Vignetten aus ihrer Feder. Sinnlich, gefühlvoll, rhythmisch, atmosphärisch, offen und doch harmonisch, betörend und hypnotisch, wecken ihre Kompositionen ein Gefühl, das die Grenzen von Raum und Zeit für einen Moment auszuradieren scheint. Der schillernde Vorbote »Glass« wirkt in der Tat zerbrechlich wie Glas; auch die vielen Spiegelungen und Farbschattierungen von reflektierendem Glas hört man deutlich heraus.
Hania Rani is a composer and musician who splits her life between Warsaw and Berlin. Her compositions for piano were born out of a fascination with the piano as an instrument, and her desire to interpret its sound and harmonic possibilities in their entirety and in her own way.
With her debut album for Gondwana Records to be released in 2019, she aims to project a sense of unlimited space and time, and to echo the influence of Icelandic landscapes and the Polish Bieszczady mountains within her music. Like all great artists, Hania Rani is ever evolving musically, and ever restless in her musical creations, seeking where her next project might lead her and we are delighted to be part of her journey.
