1953 überzeugte der Label-Besitzer Norman Granz den Pianisten Oscar Peterson eine Reihe von Alben mit Songs des amerikanischen Komponisten Harold Arlen aufzunehmen. Eines dieser Alben trug den Titel »Oscar Peterson Plays Harold Arlen« und ist Bestandteil dieser 3CD.
3 Jahre später entwickelte Granz seine Idee weiter und schlug Ella Fitzgerald, die auf seinem Verve Label war, das gleiche vor. Hier arbeitete er allerdings mit den besten Orchestern und auch mit Oskar Peterson als Begleitung von Ella. Hier sind nun 3 dieser Alben mit Kollaborationen von Fitzgerald und Peterson und so bekannten Klassikern wie »Stormy Weather«, »One for My Baby (And One More For The Road)« und vielen weiteren Hits.
