Unter den Fittichen des Managers / Produzenten Norman Granz, war Ella Fitzgerald auf dem Höhepunkt ihrer Künstler-Karriere nachdem sie die Songbook-Serie mit Songs von George Gershwin (mit Lous Armstrong), Cole Porter und Harold Arlen aufgenommen hatte. Es war auch ihre außergewöhnlichste Konzert-Periode und ihre Version von »Mack the Knife« von 1960 in Berlin war einer ihrer größten Hits. Ella singt auf den vorliegenden Aufnahmen Jazz für ein im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes verzückten Publikum.
