Black Unity Trio - Al Fatihah war möglicherweise die erste unabhängig veröffentlichte Free-Jazz-Platte überhaupt. Die in Oberlin, Ohio, als Black Unity Quartet gegründete Gruppe, aus der schließlich das Trio (Abdul Wadud, Yusuf Mumin und Hasan Al Hut), nahm die Gruppe Al Fatihah am 24. Dezember 1968 auf. Es wurde im Mai 1969 in einer Auflage von 500 Exemplaren veröffentlicht und in diesem Jahr zum ersten Mal auf Vinyl wiederveröffentlicht.
