Diese Veröffentlichung präsentiert das komplette Original Bill Evans Album Interplay. Es zeigt den Pianisten mit einer Reihe großartiger Spieler, dem Trompeter Freddie Hubbard, dem Bassisten Percy Heath und dem Schlagzeuger Philly Joe Jones.
Wie der ursprüngliche Produzent Orrin Keepnews feststellte, war Evans erste Wahl für die Trompete Art Farmer, der nicht zur Verfügung stand. Evans und Freddie Hubbard hatten beide an Oliver Nelsons wundervoller LP The Blues und The Abstract Truth von 1961 teilgenommen, und im April 1962 spielten sie beide auf der Benny Golson LP Pop + Jazz = Swing. Interplay war ihre dritte und letzte Zusammenarbeit.
