Der Pianist, Komponist, Arrangeur und Bandleader Bebo Valdés war eine der einflussreichsten Persönlichkeiten in der Geschichte der kubanischen Musik. Im Jahr 1954 begann er mit der Aufnahme einer Reihe von Alben für das Plattenlabel Decca. Zu den Mitgliedern von Bebos Orchester gehörten so bedeutende Musiker wie Alejandro »El Negro« Vivar, Luis Escalante (Trompete), Generoso »El Tojo« Jiménez (Posaune), Gustavo Mas, Rafael »Cabito« Quesada, Virgilio Vixama (Saxophone, Klarinette), unter anderem Enrique »Kike« Hernández (Bass), Guillermo Barreto (Schlagzeug) sowie Rolando Alfonso und Cándido Camero (Congas).
