»Solotude« ist das neue Solo-Piano-Album des südafrikanischen Pianisten Abdullah Ibrahim. »Solotude« wurde an Ibrahims Geburtstag im Oktober 2021 im Hirzinger Saal in Riedering aufgenommen, wo er traditionell sein Geburtstagskonzert gibt.
Der in Deutschland für seine Akustik berühmte Saal passt perfekt zur Stimmung des Albums, das warm, zeitlos und einsam zugleich ist. Die Musik umfasst zeitlose Klassiker wie »Blues for a Hip King« und »The Wedding«, selten aufgenommene Stücke wie »Tokai« sowie neue wie »Once Upon A Midnight«, »In The Evening« und »Signal On A Hill«.
Die anhaltende Reinheit und Ehrlichkeit von Ibrahims Anschlag und die emotionsgeladene Simplizität seiner Kompositionen zeigen, dass selbst in der Dunkelheit Hoffnung durchscheint. Mit 86 Jahren und selbst während einer Pandemie zeigt der immer aktive und einfallsreiche Ibrahim keine Anzeichen dafür, jemals aufzuhören.
