Product Information
AVID Jazz here presents four classic Dixieland Jazz albums including original LP liner notes on a finely re-mastered and low priced double CD.
Happy Jazz, New Orleans Jazz, Bixieland and Dixiecats plus seven out of eight tracks from George Wettling’s Jazz Band.
Happy Jazz from 1955 featuring the Red Allen All Stars is the 10" version as opposed to the 12" released under the name of clarinettist Tony Parenti. New Orleans Jazz by Wilbur De Paris and his Rampart Street Ramblers recorded in 1952 is one of the first LP’s to be recorded in Stereo using the now obsolete Binaural system. To conclude CD1 we feature seven out of eight trackd from George Wettling’s Jazz Band. Thus LP came about after a suggestion that an article on Wettling for Collier’s Magazine include photographs of a recording session. A recording session was duly arranged with famed producer George Avakian and the rest as they say is history! CD2 kicks off with Bixieland featuring Eddie Condon and his All Stars was made to pay homage to and catch the spirit of legendary cornettist Bix Beiderbecke. In the words of Condon himself, without wishing to brag, he felt these records came off better than the original Bixes. The reason being the superior musicianship Condon was able to employ including such legends as Bobby Hackett, Wild Bill Davison and George Wettling. Dixiecats featuring the Dixieland All Stars showcases the Dixieland style that took its origins from the New Orleans idiom. Dixieland music had for a while been considered a white man’s music imitating the black New Orleans style. Here we have a predominantly black band featuring such legends as Henry Allen, Willie The Lion Smith, and drummer Zutty Singleton who had been born in New Orleans in 1898 and played with Louis Armstrong and Jelly Roll Morton!
All four albums have been digitally re-mastered for probably the finest ever sound quality!
