Das achte Album THELONIOUS MONKs für Columbia Records wurde im Jahr 1964 aufgenommen und von Teo Macero produziert. Wie der Titel schon besagt, ist auf diesem Album lediglich MONKs markantes Piano-Spiel zu hören.
Er spielt klassische Pop-Standards wie "Dinah" oder "Sweet And Lovely", aber auch Eigenkompositionen wie "North Of The Sunset", "Ruby, My Dear" und "Monk's Point". Falls es überhaupt ein Album gibt, das THELONIOUS MONK charakterisiert wie die Faust aufs Auge, dann ist es "Solo Monk".
