Das Weihnachtsalbum "The Christmas Song" von Nat King Cole aus dem Jahr 1960, auch bekannt als "The Magic of Christmas", ist DAS meistverkaufte Weihnachtsalbum der 1960er Jahre und wurde vom Rolling Stone zu den 40 wichtigsten Weihnachtsalben gezählt. Es war Coles einziges komplettes Album mit Weihnachtsliedern, obwohl er schon früher in seiner Karriere mehrere Weihnachtssingles aufgenommen hatte.
Im Jahr 2022 brach Coles Aufnahme von "The Christmas Song" den Rekord für den längsten Weg in die Top Ten der Billboard Hot 100, als er 62 Jahre nach seinem Debüt in der Hitparade auf Platz neun landete; außerdem wurde er von der Library of Congress für die Aufnahme in das United States National Recording Registry ausgewählt. NPR ernannte Nat King Cole zu einem der 50 Great Voices. Er erhielt zahlreiche Auszeichnungen, darunter einen Stern auf dem Hollywood Walk of Fame und einen Special Achievement Golden Globe Award. Posthum erhielt Cole den Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award und wurde in die Downbeat Jazz Hall of Fame, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame und die National Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame aufgenommen.
