Ein europäisches "Joint Venture" in Jazz

Der grossartige finnische Pianist Jarmo Savolainen, mit nur 48 Jahren zu früh verstorben (1961-2009), begann seine musikalische Laufbahn als Wunderkind in der klassischen Musik. Dann entdeckte er den Jazz für sich, wechselte zur Ausbildung für zwei Jahre an das "Berklee College of Jazz" in Boston, wo er prägende Kontakte und entscheidende musikalische Freundschaften mit jungen US-Jazzmusikern pflegte (Wallace Roney, David Liebman, Richie Beirach, Billy Hart, Ron McClure, Tim Hagens u.v.a.). Die unten empfohlene CD "First Sight" war das stupende und überzeugende erste Resultat dieser Begegnungen. Noch heute eine grandiose Einspielung! Zurück in Finnland spielte das Jarmo Savolainen Trio (mit Uffe Krokfors, Bass, Markkuu Ounaskai, Drums) die vorliegende CD mit dem niederländischen Trompeter Eric Vloeimans (geb. 1963) ein. Neun Kompositionen von Savaolainen, das selten gespielte "Non-Stop Home" von Wayne Shorter und ein Tune des Bassisten Krokfors. Die bestechende Musik ist stilistisch dem melodiösen Hardbop und Postbop zuzuordnen. Und wie alles von Savolainen, ohne Verfalldatum aktuell und auch heute noch erstklassige Musik. So warm empfohlen, wie alles, was im Umkreis von Jarmo Savolainen noch im Handel greifbar ist.
