Als Arrangeur arbeitete Frank Mantooth für Art Farmer, Louie Bellson, oder Phil Wilson, mit eigenen Bigbands nahm er von 1987 bis 1999 fünf Alben auf. Sein engagiertestes Projekt konnte er zwar noch einfädeln und aufnehmen, doch dann starb er überraschend, erst 56 Jahre alt, im Januar 2004. So wurde Ladies Sing For Lovers zum grandiosen Vermächtnis eines modernen Bigbandchefs, der für jeden der zwölf Standards eine andere Sängerin begleitete. Mit dabei sind u. a. Karrin Allyson, Jay Clayton, Rebecca Paris, Sheila Jordan und Diane Schuur.
