Obwohl beide Künstlerinnen lange Zeit parallel in New York lebten und arbeiteten, trafen sich Elisabeth Kontomanou und Geri Allen erstmals 2011 zu einem Auftritt, einem „Tribute to Billie Holiday“-Duett, anlässlich des jährlichen Jazz en Rafale Festivals in Montreal. Ein Glücksfall, wie sich schnell herausstellte, denn die Zusammenarbeit war offenbar so überzeugend, dass die Idee für ein gemeinsames Album entstand. Über das künstlerische Grundverständnis hinaus ist es vor allem die Affinität beider Musikerinnen zu den geistlichen Aspekten der Jazzmusik, die das Leitmotiv von „Secret of the Wind“ bildet. Eigenkompositionen sind von Elementen aus Spiritual und Gospel durchzogen während Traditionals eine Neudeutung erfahren. Bei aller Erfindungslust verlieren sich Kontonmanou und Allen aber nie in Belanglosigkeiten sondern finden ihren musikalischen Weg dicht entlang des inhaltlichen Grundtenors von Aufbruch, Hoffnung und Vertrauen.
