Bill Laswell is among the most prolific artists in contemporary music: a performer, producer and label chief, his imprint is on literally hundreds of albums, the majority characterized by a signature sound fusing the enrgy of punk with the bone-rattling rhythms of funk. Laswell formed the legendary MATERIAL, an outlet for his musical approach towards sounds ranging from jazz to hip-hop to worldbeat. He is the virtual nexus of the NYC downtown community. David Byrne, Herbie Hancock, Mick Jagger, Peter Gabriel, Yoko Ono, Laurie Anderson, Dub Syndicate, DJ Spooky, Buckethead and Pete Namlook are only some of the names he has worked with. "Roir Dub Sessions" is an excellent collection taken from the "Sacred System / Dub Chamber" series, the four wide-ranging and musical eclectic albums Laswell has produced for Roir.
