Plan A
Unfortunately, you already have to call their last studio album of original material, "Plan B", a classic, as it was released 19 years ago. Yes, in 2001. To put this into perspective: "Picture This", their first somewhat commercial success in 1982, was 19 years old when they released "Plan B", and you know what happened inbetween...
So, now this, "Weather". If you expected pre-"Plan B"-material, some warmed up old recipe from the 80s, you will be dissappointed. If you liked "Plan B", however - this laid-back groovin' late HLN classic -, this one's probably for you. The first five songs pretty much sum up what the band has been doing during for the last 25 years, after their Rock heydays during the 80s and the beginning of the 90s. The sound is groovy, a little funky, a bit of the late T.O.P. here and there, lots of soul, with Huey's distinctive charming voice as the cherry on the cake.
It's a bit of a pity that they could just do 7 songs due to Huey's illness and they have to ask themselves the question: what the heck did we do the last 25 years that we cannot deliver more than 7 songs? After all, they had been on the road for all this time. So, that's a bit of a downer.
Also a bit of a downer: where are the anniversary editions of the debut, "FORE!", "Picture This", "Small World" and "Hard At Play" with outtakes, demos and rare live cuts? BMG, please, do something about that.
