Symphonie Nr.2
The SACD uses a higher digital resolution than the audio CD and also offers the possibility to store multi-channel sound (surround sound). To enjoy the music in high-end quality, a special SACD player is required. Thanks to the hybrid function, most of the products marked "SACD" in our store can also be played on conventional CD players. In this case, however, the sound does not differ from that of a normal CD. In case of deviations, we point this out separately (non-hybrid).

Im Rahmen ihrer Auseinandersetzung mit dem großen Repertoire der Romantik wenden sich die Schweden nun wieder Johannes Brahms zu. 2012 hatten sie bereits die 1. Symphonie eingespielt; Kritiker hofften damals schon auf eine Gesamteinspielung.
Nun also die Fortsetzung mit der 2. Symphonie, die Brahms im Sommer 1877 am idyllischen Wörthersee komponierte; es ist eines seiner heitersten Werke. In den Haydn-Variationen konnte Brahms seine große Verehrung von Haydn in einer seiner Lieblingsformen ausdrücken: Thema mit Variationen.
Dass das zugrunde liegende Thema, der St. Antoni Choral, gar nicht von Haydn ist, stellte sich erst Jahre nach Brahms‘ Tod heraus.
