»Peter und der Wolf« ist ein wesentlicher Bestandteil jeder Prokofjew-Sammlung und Anthologie. Diese Aufnahme wird von Lina Prokofjew, der Witwe des Komponisten, gesprochen. Sie war damals Ende achtzig und hatte das Werk bereits in New York aufgeführt.

Unser Dirigent Neeme Järvi schlug vor, dass sie das Werk gemeinsam aufnehmen sollten, und das Musikmagazin wählte diese Version des Stücks zu ihrer ersten Wahl, da sie eine höchst entzückende und anziehende Darbietung biete.

Ergänzt wird es hier durch eine Suite aus dem Ballett Aschenputtel und eine Reihe kurzer Stücke, die mit den poetischen Werken Puschkins in Zusammenhang stehen.

14 They argued and argued, the duck swimming...
15 Suddenly, something caught Peter's attention

18 ...while the duck quacked angrily at the cat...

20 The cat walked round the tree
21 Just then Grandfather came out
22 But Peter paid no attention to his grandfather's words

25 In a twinkling the cat climbed up the tree
26 The duck quacked and, in her excitement, jumped out of the pond

28 And then he got her, and with one gulp, swallowed her
