Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis (1875–1911) komponierte wie er malte: in Symbolen, Farben und stillen Offenbarungen. In den intimen Klavierwerken der VL-Reihe entfalten sich sanfte chromatische Linien wie Volksmelodien aus Kindheitserinnerungen – Fragmente, die seine Mutter einst in dem Holzhaus in Druskininkai sang. Es folgt eine Abfolge von Variationszyklen über Lieder der Natur, der Liebe, des Lebens und der Mutterschaft, die alle mit der Einfachheit mündlicher Überlieferung gestaltet, aber mit einer zunehmend modernen Harmoniesprache nuanciert sind.

In diesen 35 Stücken betritt der Pianist Geert Callaert mit ungezwungener Zärtlichkeit und struktureller Ausgewogenheit Čiurlionis’ duales Universum aus Klang und Vision. Seine Interpretationen beleuchten die innere Achse, auf der Präludien zu Landschaften, Variationen zu Erinnerungen und chromatische Flüstern zu Pinselstrichen des Malers werden, die in Töne übersetzt werden.
