Smetanas unverwechselbarer Stil basierte auf der Einbeziehung böhmischer Volksmusik-Elemente und Suks frühes Klaviertrio steht ebenfalls in dieser Tradition. Samuel Coleridge-Taylor ließ sich von seinem afrikanischen Erbe inspirieren, während Martins Trio aus dem Jahr 1925 auf traditionellen irischen Melodien basiert.
