Noch immer bietet die Musikgeschichte Überraschungen und Entdeckungen, die einen bisher fast vergessenen Komponisten in den Mittelpunkt rücken: der französische Komponist Simon Le Duc, der Ältere, ist solch ein Fall. Il joue bien, lobte 1763 der sonst eher kritische Leopold Mozart über "Monsieur Le Duc" . Und nur 35 Jahre alt geworden, gehörte er wirklich in seinem kurzen Leben zu jenen Hochbegabten, die in ihrem Leben Signifikantes geleistet haben. So war er auch als herausragender Geiger berühmt. Sein schmales Oeuvre reicht aus, um einen Komponisten von überdurchschnittlichem Talent und vor allem absoluter Originalität kennen zu lernen. Im Gegensatz zur eher kompromisslosen und herben Sprache seines Freundes Franz Ignaz Beck, sind Le Ducs "Sinfonien" und Orchestertrios eher sensibel und elegant und man kann sich kaum dieser starken emotionalen Wirkung entziehen. Die melodische Schönheit und Ausdruckstiefe werden von dem führenden Ensemble für Alte Musik La Stagione Frankfurt unter der Leitung von Michael Schneider hörbar gemacht.

Music history continues to offer surprises and new discoveries returning practically forgotten composers to the spotlight, and the French composer Simon Le Duc the Elder is one such case. »Il joue bien« – He plays well: it was with these words that the otherwise rather critical Leopold Mozart praised »Monsieur Le Duc« in 1763. Although Le Duc lived only a short thirty-five years, among his contemporaries he stood out as one of those highly talented individuals who accomplish something significant in life. He was also famous as an outstanding violinist. His compact oeuvre more than suffices to indicate a composer of above average capabilities and, more importantly, of absolute originality. In contrast to the rather uncompromising and austere language of his friend Franz Ignaz Beck, Le Duc’s symphonies and orchestral trios tend toward sensibility and elegance, so that one can hardly resist their strong emotional appeal. Here their melodic beauty and expressive depth are rendered audible by the top early music ensemble La Stagione Frankfurt under its conductor Michael Schneider.
