Many listeners have been eagerly awaiting the continuation of this series. The present compact disc forming part of the complete recording of Telemann’s violin concerto music by the Wallfisch Band not only marks the continuation of the first two volumes of his violin solo concertos but also inaugurates the work group including Telemann’s double concertos for two concertizing violins with two examples. The seven works gathered together here are all from Telemann’s early phase of concerto production (if not even from his earliest such phase), and all of them display his enormous and impressive wealth of design procedures and emotional valeurs. Elizabeth Wallfisch and the Wallfisch Band interpret this music often marked by a special gloom and vulnerability with the greatest sensibility and delicacy.
