Wie die Tuba, so ist auch das Euphonium ein Mauerblümchen unter den Blechblasinstrumenten: im Orchester unentbehrlich, als Soloinstrument von Trompetern, Hornisten, ja selbst Posaunisten belächelt und von Komponisten wie vom Publikum ignoriert. David Childs demonstriert hier auf eindrucksvolle Weise die solistischen Qualitäten des Instruments, das, wie sein Name schon sagt, äußerst wohlklingend ist.
