Kaum jemand hat in seinem Leben mehr für die dänische Musik getan als Launy Gröndahl. In diesen Radioaufnahmen aus den 1950er Jahren dirigierte er unbekannte Werke des Vaters der dänischen Klassik, Johann Peter Emilius Hartmann. Diese Bühnenmusik zeigt sowohl die heitere als auch die ernste Seite des 'nordischen Klangs' , der die Musik in Daäemark bis zu Nielsen und darüber hinaus prägte. Der Einfluss Nielsens zeigt sich in zwei Sätzen aus der ersten Sinfonie seines Schülers Poul Schierbeck und in einer feierlichen Kantate, die jährlich zum dänischen Nationalfeiertag aufgeführt wurde. Die Kantate von Jens Laurson Emborg entstand während der nationalsozialistischen Besetzung Dänemarks und gehört damit zu dieser dunklen Zeit, doch sie fängt auch die beständigen Eigenschaften des dänischen Geistes ein.
